The Unexpected

Hannah is a college student taking up Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Technology. Her passion and love towards animals, especially tigers gave her all the reason for choosing this profession. Since she was young, she is so afraid of blood, but whenever she sees a tiger having a zigzag color of yellow-gold, black and white bathed in its own blood, she has nothing to do but cry. Because of her love for animals she pretends to be a doctor and that is what she wishes to become when she grow up. Having this memory reminds her of her childhood while eating a carrot cake  and drinking a jasmine tea on a Sunday afternoon. She did not notice that her mother approached her bringing filthy appliance for ironing dresses—a flat iron on her right hand and a cotton rag on her remaining hand.

“Mom, what happened?” she asked.

“Oh! Earlier, I’ve been ironing your uniform for tomorrow when suddenly the plug of this flat iron connected to the outlet explode.” her mother said nervously.

“Are you alright, Mom?” she said worriedly.

“Yes. I unplugged the cable immediately so that it will not cause too much danger. I will just clean it so I can ask your father later if we are going to purchase a new one or look for someone who could repair this.”

Hannah is about to speak again when suddenly the phone rings. Her mother placed the flat iron and the rag on the top of the table near the telephone. Hannah was shocked because her mother forcefully dropped the call.

“The phone call was a trick. A man said ‘All aboard!’, he just keeps on saying that. People nowadays really love to deceive others.” her mother sighed.
Hannah was in great confusion when all of a sudden a crow perch on her table, she looked around to find where does the crow came from, then from the veranda she saw an open cage from their neighbor.

The house has been forsaken for one week now and she wonders how does the crow escape.
